SAT Test

The SAT exam is an international admission exam for universities. It’s affiliated with an American non-profit organization called “College Board”. The SAT allows students to enter special Turkish universities when they wish to enroll in bachelor’s and graduate studies or complete their studies in Turkish universities. The SAT aims to evaluate the student’s abilities to apply their knowledge to solving problems.
Many other tests qualify students for university admission to Turkish universities like the YOS test.

What is the SAT exam?

The SAT is focused on passing multiple tests in reading, writing, and mathematics in English most of which are information students learn at the preparatory and secondary education levels.
The SAT is divided into two tests, SAT1 – SAT2.
The SAT1 test is the main subject of our discussion in this article, as it’s required in Turkish universities.
The SAT2 test is an advanced test that is required for certain majors, it has not been mentioned by any Turkish university so far.

Names of Turkish universities that require the SAT as a condition for university admission:

Middle east technical university – Bogaz Ege University – Marmara University – Istanbul University – Hacettepe University – Istanbul Technical University – Gazi University – Yildiz Technical University – Bahcesehir University – Koc University – Sabanci University – Uludag University.
It is possible to take the SAT several times, up to 7 times, but the valid score will always be the latest one.

How can I prepare for the SAT, and are there books to study?

The duration of preparation for the SAT is usually around 4 to 7 months. There are preparatory courses for the test in specialized institutes and books used by students in these courses. Two of the most prominent of these books for the SAT are The Official SAT Study Guide and Barros How to Prepare for the SAT.

  1. Robert American High School in Istanbul.
  2. Bilkent University, Ankara.
  3. Turkey and America Association – Ankara.
  4. Izmir American Private High School – Izmir.
  5. Tarsus American Private High School – Tarsus.

SAT Study Sections:

The English language is the basis when studying the SAT curricula. To pass the test, you need to have a good knowledge of the English language. There are 4 sections for the SAT 3 of which are compulsory: reading, writing, and mathematics. One section is optional, which is the Essay section.

Reading section in the English language:
This test depends on the ability to read long texts in the English language and answer a set of related questions, which test vocabulary in human and social sciences, and literature novels; these vocabularies are relatively hard and require profound preparation to pass this test. You will find many books that are filled with lists of the most common vocabulary in this test, about 3500 words. The duration of the SAT reading test is 65 minutes, and the number of questions is 52 questions.

Writing section in English:
This section relies on reading short texts and answering multiple-choice questions; some questions are grammar related. The exam’s duration is 35 minutes, and the number of questions is 44.

Section of Mathematics:
It is a section that depends on the mathematical information that students learn in the secondary education stage. You will find many questions about statistics, algebra, and geometry. The questions include the following mathematical themes: Number and Operations – Algebra and Functions – Geometry and Measurement – Data analysis and Statistics and Probability. The duration of this section is 80 minutes, and the number of questions is 58 in total.

The Essay section:
The essay is optional; when opting to take it, students must be able to write academic articles about any subject proposed by the test administration. The duration of this section is about 50 minutes.

There are 6 dates for the SAT exams held each year. The exam fee is about $40, and the fee for opting to take the essay is $14. There are additional fees such as late registration fees, preparing for the test, and the result over the phone.
College administrations offer exemptions from these fees for students with low incomes.
