The world needs more qualified individuals who possess the knowledge and skills to pursue a career anywhere in the world. Recognizing this pressing issue, the Sabanci Group decided in 1994 to establish a “global university” under the leadership of the Sabanci Foundation.
The Establishment of Sabanci University:
The seeds of Sabanci University were sown in the summer of 1995 at a research conference attended by 50 academics from 22 countries as well as students and representatives from the private sector.
The conference was the beginning of a wide-ranging process during which the leading educational institutions in Turkey and around the world were examined to see how they were established and how they succeeded.
In the end, instead of choosing a single university as a model or duplicating existing examples and institutions, a new and unique university was designed. Since 1999, when students started enrolling, Sabancı University has established itself as a model for many universities.

The University Library:
It is an information center and service unit at Sabancı University that was established to become a “global university.” It conducted its founding activities between 1997-1998 and opened its doors to users and began providing the service in 1999 with the start of the academy’s study at the university.
The information center supports the education and research programs of Sabancı University and acts as a catalyst in the studies, trying to ensure that users have access to the most accurate information in the shortest possible time.
The center also aims to meet any information and documentation requirements for faculty members, students, staff, and alumni in addition to contributing to the accumulation of knowledge at the national and international levels.
Providing its services and means to serve all institutions, organizations, and individuals. It also assists studies and research conducted in the world of science, industry, and culture.
The information center carries out its services and activities in line with the strategic objectives of the university and prepares its strategic plan accordingly. Dormitories:
Housing is the place where the university experience and many beautiful memories take place, and the term “housing” in Turkey may conjure up a large variety of images in the minds of university graduates depending on their housing experiences and the physical preparation of their experience.
The university’s housing facilities are designed similarly to student homes, where students can gather around for friendly conversations or study in isolation, all in a homely atmosphere. Because it is concerned with the comfort of students, all the residence rooms have separate showers, lockers, and telephones for each student.
Students can connect to the internet in their offices or use the shared internet connection in the classrooms on each floor to study. When they want to relax, they can visit the communal TV rooms on each floor or enjoy refreshments from the vending machines. The rooms are designed to accommodate 2 or 4 students and are designed to allow the residents to study or sleep without outside disturbances – even when there are other students in the room.
Hygiene is a priority in the housing facilities and the dedicated staff cleans all areas of the dormitory. Students can wash their items for free in the fully automated washer and dryer machines located in the laundry rooms and use the ironing facilities provided.
