Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy, located in Tbilisi the capital of Georgia, was founded in 1992.

The eminent Georgian physician and pediatric surgeon Petr Shotadze founded the Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy. After graduating from Tbilisi State Medical University in 1970, his Ph.D., scientific and academic activities were associated with the Tbilisi State Institute of Higher Education for Physicians, where he moved from being a postgraduate student to the Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery and the head of the university. Moreover, in 1999, after the death of Dr. Shotadze, the name was changed from Tbilisi Medical Academy to Peter Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy. Since its foundation, TMA has graduated more than 1,700 students who are successfully working in leading Georgian and international hospitals, universities, and scientific centers.

The University's Goals:

The main objective of the Academy is to develop independent critical thinking, scientific reasoning abilities, and reasonable judgments among students, to support their development into highly qualified professionals.

The library:

The Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy Library (TMA) is an informational, scientific, and cultural structural unit, which is available and provides services for TMA students, teachers, administrators, and staff.
Furthermore, the librarian is responsible for managing the library, and the TMA Library membership is free, which means adding a new user to the reader module of the KOHA Integrated Electronic Library Management System by entering contact information. Finally, library resources, both print and digital, are available to members free of charge.

The University's Vision:

As a student-oriented institution of higher education, TMA primarily seeks to educate and develop national and international healthcare professionals in an innovative manner using evidence-based knowledge, while practically benefiting society in Georgia through research-based outreach activities.

Laboratory:

The laboratory is the structural unit of the Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy. Its resources and infrastructure are used for teaching and research activities. Additionally, the laboratory integrates microbiology, immunology, and biochemistry modules. The use of the laboratory in the educational process aims to perform concrete laboratory tasks by the student. Particularly, practical activity in the laboratory aims for the realization of both simple and complex diagnostic tasks, by applying the methods of microbiology, biochemistry, and immunology. Depending on the course content, laboratory activities may aim for:

    • The possibility of using theoretical knowledge.
    • Realization of concrete tasks and projects by applying the methods of microbiology, biochemistry, and immunology.
    • Collection, analysis, and interpretation of laboratory results and data.

Moreover, the laboratory is the place where scientific research projects are carried out for students, young scientists, and educational staff.

Tuition costs and education language:

$7,000 per academic year.
The academy allows the student to study in English, provided that there is proof of English language proficiency equivalent to the B2 level. If the student does not have proof, an interview is held with the student on the (Zoom) application to ensure the student’s proficiency in the English language.
