Bilkent University is a private university located in Ankara, Turkey – founded by Professor Ihsan Dogramaci
The university aims to create a center of excellence in higher education and research and was the first private non-profit university established in the country; the name Bilkent is an acronym for the term “Belem Kinte” in Turkish, which means “city of science.” It has been consistently ranked among the best Turkish universities since its establishment in 2011, listed as the 112th best university in the world according to the World University Rankings. Preparations for the establishment of the university began in 1967 with the purchase of land located to the west of Ankara. In the late 1970s, it laid the foundations of the buildings that now house administrative offices, the Faculty of Engineering, and the library soon followed by the construction of educational staff housing, cafeterias, student dormitories, and various academic buildings.

The university has been consistently ranked in the Times Higher Education University Rankings as one of the best universities in Turkey.
Bilkent is a university with a history of fewer than 50 years and is also ranked as one of the most prestigious young universities in the world.
The university is particularly known for the quality of its engineering faculty. Times Higher Education World University has ranked Bilkent among the top 100 universities for engineering and technology, making it the only university in Turkey to make it into the top 100 in the subject list.
Bilkent University’s Business Faculty was the first business faculty in Turkey to be accredited by AACSB; less than 5% of business faculties around the world have earned this accreditation. Eduniversal Business Faculty ranks among the best business faculty in the Eurasia region in terms of international influence.
According to the QS Rankings – Best Universities for 2012 and 2013, the university is ranked 151-200 for “Economics and Econometrics”.
University Library:
The university’s library houses a large collection of books with an annual holding value of more than $3 million. As of 2017, Bilkent University Library is the largest university library in Turkey and is the only university library to be ranked among the top 10 libraries in the country.
The university offers 33 undergraduate programs, as well as 32 postgraduate programs, covering 22 different fields.

The university occupies three campuses, located about 12 km west of central Ankara, and covers a total area of more than 300 hectares.

The university’s most famous sports teams are the Bilkent Goats and the Bilkent Judges, the Ultimate Team, and Football Team, respectively.
